An interpretation team consisting of Nyamba Buru Yawuru and the Broome Historical Society has been established to lead the development of creative and interactive interpretation elements at the Broome Town Beach Redevelopment. Guided by the interpretation team, MudMap Studio is working with Shire of Broome to deliver an interpretation trail and two community art projects that will share the rich cultural and historical stories of the site.
One community project is a collaboration with Agunya and Juvenile Justice to create wooden carvings to feature at the foreshore’s play area. Another is a collaboration with Yawuru artist Terricita Corpos, Broome Senior High School and Broome Youth Advisory Council to facilitate a whole of community tile project. Over a series of workshops over 500 tiles will be created, to be installed into a long concrete wall at the foreshore.
MudMap Studio’s role is to facilitate each of the community art projects, to coordinate the development of an overarching interpretation plan and to implement the interpretation items. MudMap Studio will also undertake the signage graphic design, produce construction drawings, oversee fabrication and installation of the interpretation and art items.
